A peptic Ulcer is a sore in the lining of the stomach, small intestine, or esophagus. A peptic ulcer is called a gastric ulcer. A duodenal ulcer is a stomach ulcer that develops in the first part of the small intestine. An esophageal ulcer occurs in the lower part of your esophagus. Peptic ulcer disease occurs when open sores, or ulcers, form in the stomach or first part of the small intestine.
