A procedure called peroral endoscopic myotomy is used to treat swallowing disorders brought on by muscular problems like oesophagal spasms. An endoscope, a small, flexible tube with a camera that is inserted through the mouth (peroral), is used in POEM to cut oesophagal muscles (a myotomy). Cutting the muscles prevents them from tightening and preventing swallowing obstruction. POEM is not regarded as surgery because there is no skin incision made. In comparison to Heller myotomy, which accesses the oesophagus through the mouth, it is a less invasive procedure. Compared to open surgery, endoscopic procedures are frequently less painful and have a quicker recovery time.
