A treatment called peroral endoscopic myotomy is performed to address swallowing abnormalities brought on by muscular issues including esophageal spasms. By inserting an endoscope into the mouth (peroral), a small, flexible tube with a camera, POEM can sever the esophageal muscles (a myotomy). By cutting the muscles, you can avoid them from tightening up and getting in the way of your ability to swallow. As there is no skin incision during POEM, it is not regarded as a surgical procedure. POEM is primarily used to treat achalasia, a condition in which the sphincter between the oesophagus and the stomach is very tight. This may result in weight loss and nutrient deficits, coughing or choking, sore throat, food being stuck in the oesophagus, and even choking.
