Achalasia is a rare medical condition that makes it difficult for liquids and food to pass through your oesophagus and into your stomach. The oesophagal muscles stop working properly in this disorder, making it difficult to squeeze food down and pass it into the stomach. Food may become stuck in the oesophagus if the valve between the stomach and the oesophagus does not relax properly in achalasia. Achalasia treatment focuses on reducing contraction or pressure at the lower sphincter of the oesophagus so that liquids and food can move more easily into your stomach.
