Liver cancer is cancer that starts in the cells of your liver. Your liver is a football-sized organ that sits on the upper right side of your abdomen, just below the diaphragm and above the abdomen.
There are many different types of liver cancer. The most common type of liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma, which begins in the main cell type of the liver (the hepatocyte). Other types of liver cancer, such as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and hepatoblastoma, are rare.
